Scantily-clad bikini buxom babes rollerblading down an infinite slab of coral-colored concrete? How about anthemic, bombastic, life-affirming indie pop? If the latter didn’t occur to you, let us introduce you to Surfer Blood: they call West Palm Beach home and, while still in their early 20s, have penned Astro Coast an album worth of catchy, summery indie songs that even the most hook-laden power pop band would rightfully be jealous of...That album was also recorded in a dorm room using equipment purchased with scholarship money. Deer Tick is a rock n roll band originally from Providence, Rhode Island. The band is John Joseph McCauley III, Andrew Grant Tobiassen, Christopher Dale Ryan, and Dennis Michael Ryan. The band began in December of 2004 as a drums and guitar duo. Within a few years the band developed into a quartet featuring two guitars, bass and drums, with three members singing and writing, and one writing string arrangements. Wasilla, AK via Portland, OR band Portugal. The Man has a varied sound. Their style is rooted in indie, but their songs also contain elements of soul, blues, and folk music. At times, the band chooses to utilize drum machines and/or synth loops to anchor their songs, while at other times, the band chooses to use the more conventional guitar, bass, and acoustic drum configuration characteristic of rock music. At 10 years of age, Brody Buster appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and opened B.B. King's Blues Club in L.A., jamming with The King of the Blues, B.B. King. In 1996 at the age of twelve, Brody was invited to perform at the prestigious "Montreux Blues and Jazz Festival" in Montreux Switzerland with Quincy Jones, Isaaac Hayes, Oleta Adams, Chaka Khan, Phil Collins, Keb Mo', Richie Havens and Melvin Taylor. Like most of the other accomplished performers from the area R.L. Burnside, Fred Mcdowell, Joe Callicott, Jesse Mae Hemphill, Junior Kimbrough, and Charlie Feathers-- Robert Belfour, was submerged in the area's rich musical heritage. Robert's first memory is that of his father playing a resonator guitar in a style similar to that of Charlie Pattons. Robert ate at picnics held by Othar Turner, and at church sung gospel songs led by Syd Hemphill. When free from chores, Robert could be found in the company of neighbor, and future label mate, Junior Kimbrough. Robert was 13 when his father died bringing and end to his childhood. From then on all of Robert's energy went to helping his mother provide for him and his younger brother. Robert spent what little free time he had learning to chord his father's guitar. Mow at sixty, Belfour's guitar playing is mature and highly accomplished; his voice, clear and powerful, and the sound is pure country blues. The Autumn Film has a voice you’d swear you’ve heard before, although the band was voted “Best Band to Come out of Nowhere” by The Westword. Al-Attas’ voice is completely her own. It’s a huge voice, like an old friend, telling you secrets one minute, reassuring you the next. It’s spiritual, soothing, soft, but powerful enough to fill a room. It leaves goose bumps over and over again, each time the opening notes sound. The record feels epic, and makes love sound as all-encompassing as it feels when you first find it. It’s at once intimate and larger than life, and utterly honest and confident. The Autumn Film didn’t really come out of nowhere, I suppose. All the band members have been making music for years. Rogue Wave began almost by accident. In early 2002, faced with the sort of existential crisis unique to the newly unemployed, Zach Rogue decided to take some time off from his home base of San Francisco. He set off with a one-way ticket to New York in March with the intention of recording one or two songs with a friend, in an effort to exorcise his demons both artistically and personally. He came away with both a new lease on life and an album's worth of material that would later become Rogue Wave's debut, Out of the Shadow. After touring non-stop for over a year in support of their second album Descended Like Vultures they took a much-deserved break (though they did come out of hiding to contribute “Sightlines” to the hit Spiderman 3 soundtrack) and returned to the forefront with Asleep at Heaven's Gate in 2007. CEDRIC BURNSIDE, grandson of the legendary R.L. Burnside, son of drummer great Calvin Jackson, is widely regarded as one of the best drummers in the world. Bluesman LIGHTNIN' MALCOLM is one of the leading, younger generation artists on the scene today. The "Juke Joint Duo" caught the ear of Delta Groove Music label chief, Randy Chortkoff, while playing on the outdoor jam stage at Chortkoff's 3rd Annual Delta Groove All-Star Blues Revue. After receiving a demo from the duo's manager, Chortkoff sent the duo up to Nashville to record an album for the label. Chortkoff brought in some very special guests for the session, including the innovative harmonica genius, Jason Ricci. The end result was such an authentic, swampy, backwoods sound that when you hear it, you'll have a hard time believing you're not sitting in a juke joint somewhere in the Delta. Performance artist, songwriter, classically trained harpist, circus sideshow veteran, and transgender street legend Baby Dee was born in 1953 in Cleveland, OH. She spent ten years as music director and organist for a Catholic church in the Bronx before joining the circus as the bilateral hermaphrodite at Coney Island. This landed her a gig as the bandleader for performance art group the Bindlestiff Family Circus and a tour with the Kamikaze Freak Show in Europe. fter moving back to New York City, she became a fixture in lower Manhattan with a street act on a high-rise tricycle with a concert harp. Years later, Dee has recently released her third album Safe Inside the Day. Two time Grammy award winner Jim Lauderdale is a multi-talented performer and songwriter, with successes in both country and bluegrass music. He has hosted the Americana Music Awards for the past six years and won their first Artist of the Year and Song of the Year awards. He is among Nashville's "A" list of songwriters, with songs recorded by artists such as Patty Loveless, Dixie Chicks, Mark Chestnut, Vince Gill and George Strait. He also contributed several songs to the successful soundtrack of the film, "Pure Country." Chamber pop quintet Matt Pond PA is led by eponymous singer/songwriter Matt Pond (previously of Mel's Rockpile), who formed the group upon relocating from New England to Philadelphia. Their 98' debut record Deer Apartments won top honors in the Unheard/Unsigned bands competition and they eventually caught the ear of Polyvinyl their first label (they've since moved on to Altitude). The band has been compared to a stripped down version of The Cure and has toured with the likes of Keane, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Liz Phair, and Guster. Bobby Long is a singer/songwriter from Calne, Wiltshire, South West England. He moved to London to pursue his musical career and is currently on a multi-national tour through United States and Europe.
